PHOTOCHROMIC: These lenses change colour according to the light conditions. They are available in all lens types and in both glass and plastics. The latest plastic photochromics go dark very quickly, they can be supplied in grey or brown and all have both a UV barrier and a hard coat as standard. The newest and fastest reacting photochromics go dark very quickly and are a true sun lens - ideal whatever the weather:
POLARISED: These are sun lenses which not only offer 100% protection from harmful UV rays, but by allowing light through in only one direction they eliminate glare. It is the harsh reflective white light glare which causes eyestrain, squinting and general discomfort on a bright day, by wearing a polarised sun lens your eyes will be more comfortable and relaxed whether you are reading, driving or enjoying outdoor sports. MAR - MULTI ANTI-REFLECTION: a multi layered coating which allows almost 100% of light through the lens. The purpose of the coating is to stop reflections at the front and back surfaces of the lens - this not only allows the wearer to see more clearly, but also to be seen more clearly - almost as if there is no lens! Anti-reflection coatings are ideal for those:
We always recommend anti-reflection for high prescriptions and for rimless frames - call in to see a sample lens. TINTS - Not just for sunspecs. Tinting lenses is a very fashionable way of making your specs look that bit different. Fashion tints tend to be quite pale(so you could still drive at night in your glasses) purples, lilacs, greens and blues are the most popular shades - sometimes graduating into a contrasting colour. Choose your own combinations to make your spectacles truly unique. UV400 - a coating applied to lenses to block out the suns' harmful UV rays. This is applied to all sunspecs supplied by John Exleys. At your request this transparent coating can also be applied to your "everyday" glasses. ANTI-SCRATCH/HARD COAT this transparent coating can be applied to plastic lenses to increase their scratch-resistance. It does not make them as scratch proof as glass, but is popular with those who take there specs on & off frequently increasing the risk of fine scratches and marks (e.g. reading glasses) |
